چکیده

The screening and treatment of acid mine drainage (AMD) using Na2FeO4 was explored. Elemental composition performed, an Inductively Coupled Plasma-Optical Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-OES) for the raw treated AMD. AMD samples were collected from three different sampling sites:(Raw Tailing Water 1 (RTW1), Raw 2 (RTW2) 3 (RTW3)) in Pretoria, South Africa, with acidic pH ranging between 2.50 3.13. Total dissolved solids electrical conductivity ranged 960 1000 mg L−1, 226 263 µS. cm−1, respectively. final water increased up to ≥9.5 after sodium ferrate (VI) (Na2FeO4). Liquid quantitatively produced through a wet oxidation method fully characterized, Fourier Transform Infra-Red (FTIR), X-ray Diffraction spectroscopy (XRD) UV-Vis instruments. showed dual functions by removing metals raising water. Concentrations most trace elements did not comply WHO DWAF guideline standards while Na2FeO4, concentrations below guidelines domestic irrigation purposes.

Ferrate(VI) oxidation of zinc-cyanide complex.

Zinc-cyanide complexes are found in gold mining effluents and in metal finishing rinse water. The effect of Zn(II) on the oxidation of cyanide by ferrate(VI) (Fe(VI)O(4)(2-), Fe(VI)) was thus investigated by studying the kinetics of the reaction of Fe(VI) with cyanide present in a potassium salt of a zinc cyanide complex (K(2)Zn(CN)(4)) and in a mixture of Zn(II) and cyanide solutions as a func...

Ferrate(VI) Oxidation of Aqueous Cyanide

The rates of oxidation of cyanide with Fe(VI) were measured as a function of pH (8.0-12) and temperature (1530 °C). The reaction was found to be first order for each reactant. The rates decrease with increasing pH. The energy of activation was found to be 38.9 ( 1.0 kJ mol-1 at pH 9.0. The removal of cyanide by oxidation with Fe(VI) was studied at pH 7.5, 9.0, and 12.0. Fe(VI) removal efficienc...

Potentially harmful disinfection byproducts (DBPs), as a significant challenge in water treatment, are formed when oxidizing disinfectants react with natural organic matters (NOM). Unfortunately, an  unwanted  side  effect  is  the  formation  of  harmful by-products,  such  as  THMs  and  HAAs, following the chlorination stage. DBPs  cause a variety of diseases like cancer in humans.  In this ...

Preventing acid mine drainage from mine tailings

Mining activity always has high impact on its surroundings, being waste deposition the cause of multiple and complex problems to the environment. One of them is Acid Mine Drainage (AMD), causing acid water percolation through large areas in the mine site. Portugal was a prosper tungsten producer from the beginning of the XX century, having its apogee during World War II. Nowadays there are mill...

SECTION VI FORMATION AND TRANSPORT OF ACID MINE DRAINAGE Chemical Aspects of Acid Formation

The sulfur-bearing minerals which predominate in coal seams are the iron sulfide ores pyrite, marcasite, amorphous 'sulfur-balls', and less commonly the monosulfide pyrrhotite. Excluding pyrrhotite, all have the same ratio of sulfur to iron but have different crystalline properties. The amorphous structure is reported to be the most reactive due to its large surface area, followed by pyrrhotite...
